J.K. earned his B.A. degree in theatre, studying the Meisner technique as an approach to acting and directing. After graduating with honors, J.K. moved to Detroit to study film directing at the Motion Picture Institute. With his thesis film complete, he accepted a teaching internship at Alma College, where he assistant directed The Hot L Baltimore, directed The Runner Stumbles, directed The Threepenny Opera, and played the role of Dr. Chebutykin in Three Sisters. When his internship ended, J.K. moved to Chicago, where he co-produced and directed the original play Still Life With Donkey, wrote, recorded and performed music with The Cortlandt Homes, acted in a touring children's production, and won a Best Supporting Actor award for playing the role of Adam in Someone Who'll Watch Over Me. In 2009, J.K. studied at the Meisner Studio in San Francisco. While in the city, he produced, directed and designed The Dishwashers by Morris Panych, co-directed All My Sons by Arthur Miller, assistant directed The Lion In Winter by James Goldman, and directed Inside Mamet's Computer by Howard Meehan. J.K. resides in New York, where he's an M.F.A. directing candidate and graduate teaching fellow at Brooklyn College. He became an associate member of S.D.C. in Oct. 2011.
